Prerequisites:

  • Currently Certified Drug Recognition Expert
  • Standardized Field Sobriety Instructor
  • Must have the approval of your Agency DRE Coordinator or Regional DRE Coordinator to attend

Description: This training is intended to enable currently certified DREs to instruct the IACP Drug Evaluation and Classification curriculum. Students for this 2-day school must already be certified to instruct the NHTSA Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Proficiency in the administration of the SFSTs will be evaluated at the beginning of the school through both written and practical exercises.

In addition to the two days of classroom instruction, instructor candidates must instruct for at least two hours during a DRE school and supervise a minimum of two DRE evaluations.

DREs attending Instructor Development Course must be recommended by their agency or regional DRE Coordinator.
